Episode Twelve: Efreet: Scene 1

“I just can’t deal with another suitor.”

Kanesha grinned, annoying me a little. “I think this one just wants in your pants.”

I threw a balled up paper at her. “He’s got no chance.”

She didn’t quite dodge it. “Never said he did, but I don’t think he’s going to ask you to be his queen.”

“Just, if he offers you any wishes, don’t accept. Well, I know djinn grant wishes. Do efreet?” I wasn’t sure, although I knew they were similar beings.

“Efreet are a kind of jinn. So I’d imagine they can. Don’t worry. I’ve read those stories too.” She grinned at me again. “Look. You can handle him.”

“Maybe I just don’t want to. I want to be left alone.” A pause. “With you.” I was annoyed with her. I wasn’t that annoyed. I wasn’t going to let this turn into a fight. I wanted a fight.

Not with her.

“Well, if he just wants your pants, maybe we can deflect him onto another pretty girl.” Kanesha grinned. “Not me, of course. Prue?”

“He’s not going to be Prue’s type, I don’t think.” I furrowed a brow. “Prue’s type is skinny geeky guys.”

Kanesha hrmed. “Maybe he can be whatever type he wants. Maybe he can be your type.”

I kissed her. “Nobody’s more my type than you are.”

Right now. I didn’t add that. I wanted this to be forever. Failing that, I wanted it to be her forever. I owed that to her, if I could possibly give it to her.

And I owed her protection from the various other people who wanted in my pants. I pulled away, looking into her eyes. “Trust me on that at least.”

I could see the hint of a blush coloring her dark cheeks. I took a moment to appreciate her beauty, and then pulled the rest of the way away. “I’m going to track him down and explain the score to him. If he just thinks I’m hot, hopefully he’ll back down when I tell him I’m not interested.”
“Tell him you’re gay.”

I shook my head. “That wouldn’t be honest. I’m not gay. Or straight.” I grinned at her. “I’ll just be honest with him and hope he’s got more sense than the demon.”

“And if that fails, tell him what you did to the demon.” She grinned and headed upstairs.

I watched her go, then tucked my gun back into my jacket and set off into the night.
